Cat TV

It's true. Everything really is cooler in Brooklyn, isn't it? Cuz there is nothing like Kitty Corner on our cable access channels -- or yours... Unless you live in Brooklyn -- in which case Brooklyn Community Access Television (heh, BCAT) brings you 25 minutes of uninterupted cat action! Every month!

Otto, star of Episode Seven

Episode Seven features Otto (above) grudgingly donning holiday reindeer antlers, hittin' the nip, and falling asleep while playing.

Thanks Chris!

The Land of the Rising Cat

From the best we can tell, 1981 was the year the licking cat in Japan and all the cuteness it entailed.

You may wonder, in your best engrish translation, "Why the cat standing?"

With all guesses and slander flew about from the doubt which is said. It is the ハクセイ " as for that cat not to be wrong! " " Inserting the stick, it has let stand! " " The グルグル winding the body with the wire, it is fixed with? " " The clothes which are set with the gypsum are dressed, it is is! " " Well that is the synthetic photograph! When " it becomes terrible slander, " striking the anesthesia injection, it photographs as a conscious モウロウ. When " and so on with you list, there is no drill.

Must... get... last... morsel!

Pensacola, FL, K-9 cop Harry Barraclough and Officer Mike Cornett saved a kitty who got stuck in a can of dog food.

Unfortunately, TV cameras did not get to the scene in time to capture the resuce on tape. Okay, they weren't even dispatched. But they should have been!

[While] Cornett cut holes in the can to help the cat breathe [t]he cat suddenly sprang to life and escaped, running across the street into a yard, barely avoiding an oncoming vehicle.

“The cat had used two of its nine lives by then,” said Barraclough, who described it as a “heat-seeking missile” as it rampaged around the yard.

The officers recaptured the kitty, and Cornett used pliers to remove the can.

Le Purrrrrr...

Big cats are cats, too, y'know. And with less than 5,000 snow leopards alive today, Winnepeg Zoo resident Dmitri is doing his part and possibly setting a world record for his studliness and studosity.

At 19, Dmitri is old for a snow leopard, but that's not how he's earned his reputation. He is also the most sexually productive leopard in Canada, possibly the world.

He's always enjoyed his mates

He's fathered 15 kittens in his lifetime – more than double the average for male snow leopards – and is the oldest male snow leopard to ever sire offspring.

OMG

How many firemen does it take to rescue a cat?

Chicago Tribune Problem Solver (registration required, booooo) lends a hand to save Chiky, stuck 50 feet up a tree. 50 feet! And what a production:

Soon, more than a dozen firefighters arrived, including some from Engine 91, Squad 2, Battalion 7. [...] As the temperature dropped, they backed the truck from the alleyway, then raised a bucket holding Urbon and two firefighters. One firefighter carved a path through the branches using a chain saw; the other guided the basket ever closer to the cat.

About 45 minutes into the operation, the crew was close enough to grab Chiky with a snare--a loop at the end of a long pole. Seconds later, the cat wriggled free, fell several branches, then scampered even higher.

It ends happily, of course, otherwise we wouldn't be telling you about it. Only good cat news here at CatTastic.

Kitty Maze Fever

Who ya gonna call...

...when your kitty is stuck in a tree? The fire department? Nope. Police? No siree. The pound? Sorry.

Very detailed account of Roselle, NJ, resident Joe Bass' plight to save his cat from just such a predicament:

Bass needed to think of someone else who could help get Sam down or find a way to do it himself. He then got an idea. "I was thinking 'Where can I get a ladder big enough?' " Bass said. "Then I thought of roofers."

Paws up to Joe Percario Enterprises for saving the day when big government wouldn't.

Next Step: Flushing

Karawynn Long achieved the holy grail of cat owners by toilet training her cat, Misha! She lays out a detailed account of how, with a patience and, (presumably) paper towels your kitty can do this too. It may not be easy, but, as she points out:
if you begin to think it's not worth it, just remember that you will never have to clean a litter box again.

She also elaborates in an FAQ section.

Meowmory

You'll recognize lots of classic kitten pics in this memory game. A word of advice, though -- don't get caught up in all the cuteness, cuz you only get two minutes to finish. We can barely get that though. Enjoy!

Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

More harrowing hitch-hiking cat tales.

Princess Leia, possibly seeking out a larger litter box, spent a week on beauteous Hilton Head Island. If only everyone who found kitties were as considerate as Bill Boswell, this Leia's Obi-Wan:

The 9-month-old calico cat wound up on the front doorstep of Bill and Sheila Boswell's Shipyard Plantation home last month, soon after the departure of a contractor [...] He spent the week making fliers and calling island veterinarians to find its owner. No luck. Then it hit him -- the contractor had mentioned he'd been in Bluffton before coming to the Boswells. Bill started calling mainland vets on the chance the cat had bummed a ride over the bridges.

Leia is now back home under the watchful eye of her own Chewbacca of sorts, her best friend, a Rottweiler mix.

Dogs Suckle

Dr. Kimberlee Young of North Bergen, NJ, performed a C-section on a pregnant dog who'd been hit by a car, bringing four pups into the world. After the mother died from her injuries, Dr. Young stepped in to rear them. Meanwhile, Yentl, her champion Birman, had recently delivered a stillborn kitten and was in mourning.

After weeks of too many late-night puppy feedings, Dr. Young had an idea to quell Yentl's maternal yearnings:
"I handed her one of the puppies to see if she was game for it," Young said. "I figured that Yentl had just given birth and I knew she had mother's milk. So I just put the puppy in there to see what happened. Amazingly, she took to the puppy. So I gave her the other three. Yentl took to them as well. She immediately started cleaning them. She was purring. She was so happy."

Having now found homes for each of the puppies, Dr. Young is apparently looking for a home for Yentl, as well.

Phew...

It's tough combing the interweb for cat pics, cat news, cats, cats and more cats. After our first two days, we found ourselves winding down the week with, Kittens.
Kittens

It's an oddly compelling game, despite the fact that we can't qute read Japanese and had trouble getting past level two.

Anyway, cheggout the other at cat and kitty games at donpixel.com while we take the weekend off from posting to find you the best cat-related auctions, cat pics, cat news, cats, cats and more cats we can find!

Have a good weekend!

Feline-ize* your browser

As if you needed another reason to switch to Firefox besides the extensions, the tabs, the easy pop-up blocking, or the Firefox plush doll (especially that), there's also the "Red Cats" theme for it, too. Now you can turn all your buttons (back, home, refresh, etc.) into Kitties!

Mysteriously, the theme doesn't come in red, but there's a blue version or a green version, which is our choice.

* Like "personalize", but, um, for cats.

Meet Aslan, from Ipswich. Aslan's not the type to miss a meal. When he did, his owners knew something was wrong.
But just as it appeared all hope was lost, the couple received a call to say that the ten-month-old cat had been found safe and in purrfect health - 262 miles away in Mid-Glamorgan.

Oh, and what do the British call the hood of a car? A bonnet, of course.

'The Fuzz' has a new meaning....

Maybe this guy was trying to pull a Bill Frist... or maybe he just couldn't get in to vet school. Regardless, undercover kitty Fred set things straight risking life and paw to keep the pets of East Flatbush, NY, safe.

Fred was last seen at the station with with a dozen tuna donuts.
